Battle of the Dry Shampoos: Living Proof vs Klorane
Pros:
Oil absorption. I mean, there is not an oily scalp that this stuff could not handle. Honestly, even if you’re running on Day 4 or even Day 5 of not washing hair, trust me, this stuff will probably leave your hair looking like you just washed your hair the night before.
The volume. Wow, I can see why hairstylists love using dry shampoos on their clients for styling. And Living Proof’s PHD Dry Shampoo is no exception. This stuff gives such great volume that truly lasts. The volume it gives looks so good with beach waves or curls!
The scent (maybe?). I say maybe, because I used to really love the scent of this stuff. If you’re coming from a morning gym session and you have a lunch date afterwards, trust me this stuff comes in super handy. However….
Cons:
The scent (at least for me haha). …. it can be a bit strong in all other scenarios. For instance, if I’m running to work and don’t have time to wash my hair and blow it out, and dry shampoo is my only option, the scent is a bit strong and can clash with whatever perfume I’m wearing that day. I’ve ever had one friend tell me once that my hair smelled like baby powder!
The itchiness. Because of it’s super effective in absorbing oil, it only goes with out saying, that after a while sitting on your head, you might get tempted to start scratching a little. With that being said, I highly recommend washing this stuff out by the end of the day.
Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk
Pros:
Does the job. It’s not as mattifying as the Living Proof dry shampoo, but it’s still pretty darn close. It also gives some volume, but not as much volume as the Living Proof. On Day 3 of not washing my hair, after using the Klorane Dry Shampoo, I look as if I had washed my hair just the day before!
It’s gentle- in all aspects. Although it does the job effectively, it does it without feeling too heavy or itchy. This is super important as you can go about your day without having to scratch your head or wonder if the scent is too strong.
Formulation. Klorane boasts that it’s made with organically harvested oat milk, corn and rice starch, and natural absorbent microspheres and silica. Now, it could be very similar in ingredient list as the Living Proof, but the oat milk ingredient sort of persuades me that it is naturally better for my scalp. Not to mention, it also comes in a darker-tinted formula for those with darker hair.
Cons:
Not as odor eliminating. If you’re main concern is getting rid of odor, maybe the Living Proof PHD is a better choice for you. The scent of Klorane is very faint, and may not be enough for your needs.
Not suitable for extremely oily scalps. If you feel as though your scalp produces oil like crazy, first things first, make sure you’re properly hydrating your scalp and taking care of it! Second, remember that the Klorane does its job effectively, but it’s nowhere near as mattifying as the Living Proof version.
Final Verdict
The Winner: Klorane
So the main thing this decision came down to was the feel of it on my head after the day was over and the smell it produced as I wore it out. Honestly, as much as I used to love how the Living Proof’s dry shampoo smelled, it required me to wash it off the day I used it- or else the day after scent wouldn’t be as pleasing. It also left my hair itchy by the end of the day- something the Klorane doesn’t do. Yes, you need to spray more of the Klorane for it to absorb as much oil as the Living Proof, but it’s honestly a tradeoff I’ll take to avoid a strong hair scent and an itchy scalp. You may have different needs as I do. If you value extreme oil absorption and odor reduction very highly, maybe try the Living Proof. However, since I am only moderately oily (especially after the second day), and I’d rather have my perfume be the superstar of my aroma and not my dry shampoo, I will continue repurchasing the Klorane Dry Shampoo between the two.
