YSL Touche Éclat Foundation in 2019
So, I sort of jumped on the boat super late on this one, but better late than never right? I’ve been wanting to try out this foundation since it launched (especially because there was a huge buzz in the industry prior to its launch since it had to live up to the famed Touche Éclat Concealer’s reputation), but I was already in love with other dewy foundations and this one just didn’t seem necessary at the time. As years passed, I just sort of forgot about it, until my recent YSL haul at Nordstrom last month. When purchasing the foundation, I was determined to find out whether this foundation was still a game-changer, or a flop 7 years later.
Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat Le Teint Radiance Awakening Foundation
Claims (from yslbeautyus.com):
Benefits
8 hours of beauty sleep in a drop. A bestselling foundation, now in an advanced formula, that reduces the look of fatigue and creates flawless medium coverage.
What it Does
Enriched with the stimulating power of Ruscus Extract, the anti-fatigue formula energizes skin by stimulating micro-circulation and targeting dullness to instantly improve skin brightness and luminosity. Vitamin E protects against free radicals. Formulated with SPF 22 to provide sun protection, it leaves a weightless finish while offering eight hours of a refreshed, radiant look.
Review
Application
For the past 3 weeks, I’ve been using a damp beauty blender to apply this foundation. I opted for a beauty blender, because its consistency is quite thick. With the beauty blender, I’ve been able to achieve smooth, even results without it separating. It is important to note thought that I have dry skin, so I can predict that there might be separation for someone with oilier skin.
Finish
I was expecting this foundation to be super duper glowy and dewy, but really, it’s just sort of semi-matte. It reminds me of the Estee Lauder Double Wear, however in terms of overall coverage and finish, I enjoy the Estee Lauder DW way more. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy the finish of the YSL Touche Éclat, however, you definitely need great skin to fully enjoy it. The only time I was ever like, wow I really like how this looks, was when I slathered myself with a super hydrating mask, a hydrating serum, and a thick moisturizer. Now, you all now I strongly advocate good skin health anyways, under any foundation, but I can’t really see this foundation achieving the amazing, awakening, radiant finish it advertises unless someone was willing to use all those extra products beforehand.
Lasting-Power/Feeling
YSL claims the foundation lasts around 8 hours and I would agree with that. However, like I mentioned, I have dry skin, and I don’t see it lasting that long on someone with oilier skin. Also, something interesting to note is that while it isn’t the heaviest foundation I’ve worn, it is a bit more tacky than other similar foundations I have. That usually means I have to powder to set it, or else it won’t ever really set itself. I wore this foundation almost every day on my vacation in Florida, and it felt heavy. I first blamed it on the high humidity levels, but even in the nighttime, it still felt like I was wearing foundation- a characteristic that I don’t find often nowadays in newer, high-end foundations with similar coverage.
Final Verdict
I don’t dislike the YSL Touche Éclat Foundation, but I don’t really see myself repurchasing it. I’ll continue to use it, as I did pay a pretty penny for it, however I think for the price range (and even cheaper) you can find better foundations that look better, last longer, and feel lighter on the skin. Maybe in 2012 this foundation was the “it” foundation, as models and actresses bragged about how they loved it, but I think after 7 years it hasn’t really aged well. Also, with more affordable options on the market, even in the high-end range, this isn’t really a must-have in 2019.
What do you guys think??? Do any of you still love this foundation??? Let me know in the comments below!
