Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base Review
So as many of you know Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale is quite legendary in the beauty community, because it’s one of the only times out of the year high-end brands release amazing beauty deals!!! Not missing any opportunity for any steals, I came across a great deal during NSale’s early access for two Bobbi Brown Vitamin Face Bases for the price of one. That’s right! And who doesn’t love a good two-fer??? Now, I have never used the BB Face Base on myself, however I have used it on Paloma Elsesser when I was assisting for a Vogue cover shoot. Therefore, I know it’s amazing product to shoot with, but let’s see if it actually holds up in personal everyday use:
Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base
Description (from bobbibrowncosmetics.com):
WHAT IT IS
A Bobbi Brown bestseller—a primer plus moisturization for smooth makeup application (it's the best of both worlds). Rich in feel, but never greasy, this advanced formula, with Shea Butter, instantly hydrates, softens and cushions skin.
WHO IT’S FOR
Normal to oily skin types.
WHY IT’S DIFFERENT
This formula combines the moisturizing power of Shea Butter with Vitamins B, C and E. Grapefruit and Geranium fragrances leave a light, uplifting scent on skin. With daily use, skin looks and feels its best.
Review
Consistency
The consistency of the Face Base almost feels like wax. It’s not a bad thing necessarily, but it’s definitely not like your traditional moisturizer at home. I actually like it, as I feel like a little goes a long way with this product. So definitely, when trying this out for yourself, scoop out a small amount first as the waxy texture of it disperses more than you would assume so.
Benefits
Now, with someone like me who has dry skin, hydration is key. Really, with anyone looking for a smooth application of makeup, hydration is key (the only different is how much hydration are we talking about). Now, on Bobbi Brown’s website, it recommends this moisturizer for normal to oily skin types. However, I found this moisturizer extremely hydrating even with my dry skin. I made sure I didn’t use any other moisturizing products underneath it while I was testing it out under foundation, and trust me, this stuff was good enough on its own!
Under Makeup
Now as I mentioned previously, when I tested this out, I didn’t use any other hydrating products, and my foundation came out flawless. Now, it is summer, and I presume in the winter time, I should use an essence or a serum underneath it, but as of right now, my normally dry skin looked great with just this and some foundation on top. I actually love that after applying, this moisturizer leaves your face slightly tacky. This property helps the foundation adhere better to the skin and spread more evenly upon application. On one of the days I was testing it out, I used the BB Face Base and my Chanel Water Fresh Tint without any type of setting spray, and it did not separate (which it usually does if I don’t set it with a spray or powder). Moisturizer is everything to me when it comes to perfecting complexion, and this stuff did not disappoint!
Final Verdict
So far, I love this stuff! I actually disagree with their advertisement on who this product is for, as I personally believe it’s best for those with normal to dry skin types. It isn’t oil-free, and it has more of a waxy texture to it, so I’m not sure if those with oilier skin types would need this much hydration. With that being said, I could be wrong, so those with oily skin types reading this should definitely check it out in person before making a decision! As of how it appears and wears, it looks phenomenal underneath makeup, and I love that it does serve as a great primer as well, giving a slight tackiness and nice shine to enhance foundation application and finish. I can definitely see why makeup artists and consumers alike are in love with this stuff! I’m also extremely grateful I got two for the price of one, because now I can keep one on my vanity and one in my kit!
