La Mer Soft Fluid Foundation Review (RIP My Wallet)
Ok, so I know, I know. Who would spend 3 digits on a foundation??? This sucker right here! So let’s see if I made a smart decision or not:
Key Ingredients
(from the La Mer website):
Miracle Broth™
The Cell renewing elixir at the heart of La Mer is formulated with hand-harvested sea kelp and other nutrients and minerals unlocked via a natural fermentation process. Surging with vital energies, Miracle Broth™ empowers the five facets of healing- moisture, regeneration, soothing, smoothing and radiance- helping bring skin back to its healthiest center. As an experience unique to ever complexion. And is infused into every treatment in the collection.
Fermentation is a time-intensive craft that boosts the power and efficacy of individual ingredients for a sum that is greater than its parts.
Color Capsule Technology
La Mer’s Color Capsule Technology was created to mimic true skintones. Color pigments are encapsulated in transparent spheres to keep color looking pure, true, and natural.
Soft Velvet Ferment
Formulated to renew and re-texturize the skin, at the heart of this transformational ferment is a high-performance Velvet Algae found deep in the surface of the North Atlantic. The Soft Velvet Ferment helps hydrate and soften the look of skin, enhancing radiance for a multi-dimensional finish.
Review
Ok, sound that sounds luxurious and great and all, but how does the foundation actually perform?
The Application
Personally, if I’m using the La Mer on its own, I’ll use it with an Artis Mirror Oval 7 Brush. If I’m mixing it with a long-lasting foundation, I’ll use a damp Beauty Blender with it.
The Finish
Ok, guys, when I say that no foundation has laid on my face like this one- I mean it. Like, Estee Lauder’s Double Wear gives me a flawless finish, but this La Mer foundation is godly. I mean, have you guys ever seen celebrity makeup artist Patrick Ta’s work?!?! It’s literally flawless! He creates literal angels out of people with this stuff! So it’s no surprise that I was gonna be blown away by the finish of this foundation. What I like about it, is that it creates a satin finish on me (I have semi-dry skin) that just looks so natural but so perfect at the same time. In comparison, with my Estee Lauder Double Wear, my skin looks too perfect to not be wearing foundation. However, with this foundation, although it has a very similar coverage, there’s just something about it that looks more like skin. It automatically creates this lit-from-within look without even trying, and it’s photographs soooo perfectly. When I tried it on my entire face in store, I ran my errands that day with my chin a little higher than usual.
The Lasting-Power
So the Soft Fluid foundation doesn’t claim to be long-lasting, but I think it does a fairly decent job for a satin finish foundation. After 5 hours, my foundation still looks perfect. Then after 8 hours, you’ll see slight fading around my cheeks and nose area. However, to combat this, I mix this stuff with a little Double Wear and WOWWW. Cheat Code Unlocked. The beautiful finish and photogenic properties of the La Mer just gets enhanced with the Estee Lauder’s staying power and together makes such a harmonious couple that has made it to my favorite I need to dress to impress face routine.
The Benefits
To be honest, I haven’t seen any. To be fair, I do tend to mix this with my Double Wear which might negate some of the Soft Fluid’s effects, and I haven’t been using it everyday to where I should notice a difference in my skin. However, with all of the hydrating benefits that La Mer claims, I can’t imagine it doing harm to my skin.
Final Verdict
Now, I know the price tag is killer. I mean, you could literally buy sooo many other things with that price point. However, if you have been looking for a flawless finish foundation and are willing to spend the money to, then I think the La Mer’s the best option as of right now. Before making your decision though, this is what I recommend: Go into your local La Mer counter and try it on. Wear it out throughout the day before purchasing to see if it wears well on you or doesn’t. Like I mentioned, I have semi-dry skin, so it may sit and look differently on me than on someone else who has a different skin type. But all-in-all, I 120% recommend at least trying this foundation at least once!
