NEW Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Matte Powder Foundation (new formulation!)
Powder foundations are tricky. Especially if you have dry skin like me. Also, I feel like more people nowadays lean towards liquid foundations because of their popularity and their coverage. However, I still know people who swear on powder foundations- whether they use it as a foundation or as a finishing powder. Just recently though, Estee Lauder revamped and reformulated their classic Double Wear Stay-in-Place Matte Powder Foundation, and I put it to the test!:

Coverage
So this stuff gave me the coverage I expected which was light to medium coverage when I applied it using the sponge. Again, I have dry skin, so I’m not fond of caking powder on. I’m sure if you have oily skin however, you could definitely build up a solid medium coverage with this powder foundation.
Finish
On myself, I got a completely matte finish with this foundation. Keep in mind however, I have normal to dry skin. On my clients who I’ve used this on with combo/oilier skin, I got a matte to semi matte finish.
Longevity
This powder stayed on for about 8 hours. Now again, I didn’t layer this stuff on heavily, so if you layered more on, it probably wouldn’t disappear as quickly as it did on me. However, when I used this stuff as a setting powder instead of an all over foundation, I stayed matte the entire day!
Final Verdict
Now, this was a hard review to write, because honestly, I’m not a fan of powder foundations. It’s still pretty chilly here on the east coast, which is not really ideal weather for me to sport a powder foundation on a daily. Still, I pressed forward- using a ton of moisturizer- and honestly Estee Lauder’s new powder foundation is not as bad as others I’ve tried. There are a few benefits to this foundation: I’ve tried different shades on myself as well as my clients, and I’m really grateful for the range of shades available for this line. I found that this foundation looked best on those with combo to oily skin, but that’s pretty much across the board when it comes to powder foundations. Again, since I don’t loveeee powder foundations on myself, in general, I wasn’t elated with the finish of my foundation. I tend to go for a satin finish for foundation, so I don’t see myself grabbing for this stuff often to use alone. Now, as a setting powder with extra coverage, I could definitely see myself using!!! Now, the new formulation is actually better than the old in my opinion, so that’s also another plus! If you were a fan of the old Double Wear or are just looking to experiment with different powders because you have oily skin, I would recommend checking the new formulation out!
